I love ambiguity. Especially in paintings. Even in works that don’t need it, I love adding little details that make someone stare a bit longer. In this mural especially, there’s this small question of the dragon’s intentions. Whether he is blessing or attacking the tower. Is the pagoda summoning the dragon, or warding it off etc. However, under all of this the main idea was just aesthetics. All the deeper meanings and intentions came after. The draft was bare. Plain and boring. It’s similar to writing in a way, the draft is just ideas. All the deeper and hidden meanings are carefully placed and written later. Like the dragon. At the time I had a hyperfixation on Chinese dragons. Mostly for the way they look. At the time of the draft I was drawing dragons often, so it made sense for my mural to have one too. It was a wonderful experience, and I'm grateful to ever work on a canvas this big.
